Vietnam eVisa Processing: August & September 2026 Holiday Notice

In short: Vietnam Immigration is closed on Wednesday 19 August, and again from Saturday 29 August through Wednesday 2 September, reopening Thursday 3 September. Closed days are not counted as processing days — an application sitting over the holiday simply does not move. If you are entering Vietnam in early September, submit by Thursday 27 August at the latest.
The closure dates
Wednesday 19 August — People's Police Traditional Day. One day only. Offices reopen Thursday 20 August.
Saturday 29 August to Wednesday 2 September — National Day. Five consecutive days closed. Offices reopen Thursday 3 September.
Saturday 22 August is a working day. It has been designated as a substitute for Monday 31 August, so applications submitted that day are processed normally, at normal pricing. This is unusual and easy to miss — most people assume every Saturday is closed.
What this means for your application
Processing times are counted in working days, and closed days do not count. An application submitted on Friday 28 August will not begin moving until Thursday 3 September — five calendar days of nothing happening, through no fault of the application itself.
This also applies to rush and same-day processing. Faster tiers work by pushing an application through the system more quickly, but they cannot run when the system is not staffed. During the closure there is no expedited option, at any price. That is the part travellers find hardest to accept, and it is worth planning around rather than testing.
Dates to apply by
If you are entering Vietnam between 20 August and 28 August, apply at least four working days ahead and remember 19 August does not count.
If you are entering Vietnam between 29 August and 5 September, this is the window that matters. Submit by Thursday 27 August so the application clears before offices close. Waiting until the final week of August is the mistake we expect to see most.
If you are entering after 5 September, expect a backlog in the first days after reopening. Everything held over the holiday is released at once on 3 September, so build in a few extra days rather than assuming normal speed resumes immediately.
